Research team

Alexei has been involved in securities markets since 1997. Throughout his professional career, he has focused on analysing Russian, Eastern European and CIS securities, covering the utilities, metals and mining, consumer, banking and real estate sectors. He has substantial experience both in Russia and abroad, having worked for Robert Fleming Securities, ING Financial Markets and JPMorgan Chase in London, and ATON Capital and Renaissance Capital in Moscow. In 2008, Alexei won the prestigious Institutional Investor award for best real estate analyst.

Before joining LLC Aton, Peter was Head of Equity Strategy for Russia and Turkey at J.P. Morgan, and earlier held the Chief Economist position at MDM Bank and prior to that at Aton Capital. From 1998 to 2001 he worked in Moscow for the Stockholm Institute for Transition Economics (SITE) and the Russian European Centre for Economic Policy (RECEP) where he edited Russian Economic Trends, at the time the leading publication on the Russian economy. Concurrently, he also acted as an advisor to the Russian and the Swedish governments. Prior to RECEP, Peter was a lecturer in transition economics at University College London from which he also has a Ph.D. In 2005 he was voted No. 1 EMEA economist by Thomson Extel, and is also the author of The Wild East: Negotiating the Russian Financial Frontier, published in 2001.

Andrew joined Aton in 2009 from IFC Metropol and is now part of the Strategy and Economics team. Andrew graduated from the University of Bristol (UK).

Sergey joined ATON having spent seven years at Sun Microsystems working as a test Engineer. He graduated from St Petersburg State University’s faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics.

Prior to joining LLC Aton, Elena worked for almost six years at Renaissance Capital, covering an extensive range of second-tier oil and gas names in Russia, as well as many Ukrainian and Central Asian oil and gas companies. From 1998-2003, Elena worked for junior oil and gas company, Khanty-Mansiysk Oil Corporation (KMOC), which was sold to Marathon Oil Corporation in 2003. Her responsibilities included company valuations, budgeting and new-project appraisal. Her previous experience also includes work for Brunswick Warburg and YUKOS.

Slava Bunkov has been involved with the Russian stock market since 2003 and with Aton since 2006. His primary area of coverage is Russian oil and gas companies, and he provides in-depth assessments of industry developments for Aton’s sales and trading teams. Prior to this, Slava headed up Aton’s Retail Research Department, during which time he developed a number of analytical products for the company’s retail business. Slava holds a BSc in Economics from the Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics. In addition, he has gained series 1.0 and 5.0 qualification certificates from Russia’s Federal Financial Markets Service.

Before joining LLC Aton in June 2009, Mr Nikolaev was as an analyst at Renaissance Capital responsible for covering Russian and CIS agricultural and pharmaceutical companies.

Marina Gutneva joined ATON in 2010 soon after graduating from the State University - Higher School for Economics with a Masters Degree in Economics. She is now a member of the Consumer Goods and Retail team.

Prior to heading ATON’s Utilities research, Ilya led the coverage of over 40 Russian electric utility companies at FIM Securities (Glitnir) which was among the most comprehensive on the market. From 2005-2007, Ilya was a buy-side analyst at Red Star Asset Management, a Russia and CIS -focused hedge fund. There Ilya took charge of a broad range of sectors, with utilities his priority responsibility. He holds a BA and MA in Economics from The State University - Higher School of Economics, in Moscow.

Before joining ATON, Alexey worked as an analyst at AccessAlpha Worldwide in Chicago, US. He graduated from Northwestern University in 2009, having majored in Economics, International Studies and Business.

Mikhail joined Aton from IFC Metropol where he was responsible for ‘Special Situations’. His coverage included Russia's fertiliser producers, automotives as well as infrastructure construction companies. From 2006-08 he worked for Moscow-based IFD Kapital covering Russia's small cap universe, and before that at Finam IC where he was responsible for the manufacturing and transportation sectors.

Nikita joined Aton in 2009 from Deloitte & Touche, after four years auditing Russian industrial, retail and agricultural companies. He graduated from the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the State University – Higher School of Economics, and is now an essential member of the Special Situations and Small Caps team.

Stanislav joined Aton in 2009 from UBS, bringing with him substantial experience in the telecoms sector. He covered Russian telecoms and media stocks at UBS and Uralsib Capital and was the senior analyst at FIM Securities. As part of the telecoms teams at UBS and Uralsib Capital, respectively, Stanislav was ranked fourth in the Russia 2009 Extel survey and fourth in the EMEA 2006 Extel survey. Stanislav graduated from the Moscow State University.

Ms Skvortsova is Aton’s equity analyst for the telecoms sector and brings to Aton several years’ experience in the Russian financial markets. After graduating from Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics, specialising in mathematical methods in economics, Irina worked as an analyst at Agana Asset Management.

Dinnur, who heads up metals and mining coverage at Aton, was an equity analyst at ABN AMRO in London, covering Western European and Russian large cap steel and mining companies and prior to that at KBC Peel Hunt and Panmure Gordon, covering LSE-listed small and midcap oil and gas companies. Dinnur brings with him to financial services over seven years’ experience at BP, both in London and Aberdeen (Scotland), working on a variety of commercial projects in the North Sea and internationally (with specific focus on Russia and the former Soviet Union). Dinnur has a Finance MBA from the University of Nottingham.

Ilya Makarov was previously employed as an engineering analyst at Antanta Capital and UBS, and as a metals and engineering analyst at Rye, Man and Gor Securities. He obtained a Masters Degree in Finance from Ohio University (US) and has the series 1.0 qualification from Russia’s Federal Financial Markets Service.

Elena graduated from the Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics with a distinction in finance and credit. Her specialisation was ‘Stock Markets and Securities’. Elena also holds a series 1.0 qualification certificate from the Federal Financial Markets Service. Prior to joining Aton, Elena worked for Finam Investment Company where she was responsible for fundamental and technical analysis of stock and currency markets.

Lauren heads up the Editorial and Production team having worked as a financial editor at Renaissance Capital. She has six years’ experience in financial services and has worked for JPMorgan Chase in Johannesburg and New York. Lauren has a Bachelor of Architectural Studies and a Business Science degree in Information Systems.

Andrey joined ATON in Nov 2010 after graduating from the Cranfield School of Management (UK) MBA programme. Before joining the programme he was part of Promsvyazbank’s Investment Banking team where he focused on the Russian bond market and in particular on public finance. Prior to this he worked in Rosbank's Investment Banking team. He graduated from the State University of Management and obtained PhD degree.

Prior to joining LLC Aton, Anna worked for various oil and oil service companies (YUKOS, Khantymansiyskneftegasgeologia, Integra) and for Interros holding. Her responsibilities included financial and investment planning and analysis, business valuation. She holds a MA in Economics from the Moscow State University.
